Pettimudi landslide: Govt announces Rs 5 lakh for kin of deceased

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the death of 17 persons in Pettimudi here following the landslide. He announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to the families of the deceased persons.

Speaking to media, CM also said that government will bear the treatment expense of the people injured in the disaster.

The incident is said to have occurred in the wee hours on Friday when a huge mound of earth fell on the row houses here. 17 people lost their lives while 12 others were rescued. The rescue operations are underway for the missing 47 persons. 3 of the injured are admitted to Kolenchery medical college hospital and 1 in Tata general hospital.

Teams of National Disaster Response Force personnel have been deployed for the rescue operations. If required, help will be sought from Navy and Army, CM added.

He also said that mobile medical teams and ambulances have been readied in Idukki and police personnel from various battalions have been deployed.
