Adoor: In connection with the death of Adoor village officer during postoperative treatment, Adoor police charged a case against a private hospital. The deceased is identified as S Kala (49) of Kalayapuram. Her family members had filed a police complaint against the hospital alleging medical negligence.

Kala underwent a surgery related to thyroid on Friday. After the surgery, she was shifted to ICU. Though Kala’s husband was allowed to see her once, she was unconscious then. Nobody else was allowed to see her.

On Saturday morning, the hospital authorities informed Kala’s husband that she suffered some uneasiness at night. They informed him that the doctor examined her and that she was stable. However, they informed him by 5:30 am that she had a cardiac arrest.

The hospital staff said that she should be shifted to a private hospital in Kollam. They added that an ICU ambulance including medical professional from there will reach there soon.

However, the ambulance from Kollam hospital did not reach even after two hours. When Kala's family members inquired, a normal ambulance nearby was arranged. Considering the request of family members, a doctor and nurse accompanied Kala in the ambulance.

According to the statement given by kin of the deceased to police,  Kollam private hospital administration informed that Kala succumbed on Saturday at 10:30 am.

Meanwhile, Adoor private hospital administration maintained that the death is not linked to lapses in the surgery. They claimed that cardiac arrest resulted in her death. The post-mortem was conducted at Kottayam Medical College on Sunday.

The deceased is survived by husband Jayakumar, children Aishwarya and Akshay.
