Fake e-challan scam: Palakkad native loses Rs 2.13 lakh

Ottapalam: A man lost Rs 2.13 lakh after he clicked on a fake message claiming to pay a fine for a traffic violation. The fraud was in the name of the ‘Parivahan’ system of the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD). The victim is Manidasan, a resident of Ottapalam.

The fake message was sent through WhatsApp using a fake logo and the name 'Parivahan'. The text message stated that the victim had a traffic fine violation. It also gave the exact vehicle and challan number. 

Manidasan lost his money by clicking the link that was provided for the details about the fine.
