Mangaluru to leave Palakkad Railway Division as transfer to Mysuru begins

Payyanur: Procedures for transferring the Mangaluru region from the Palakkad Railway Division to the Mysuru Division have begun.

As part of the process, railway assets including tracks, bridges and buildings will be formally handed over. An agreement has also been reached on the transfer of financial liabilities, contracts and the list of ongoing works, along with sketches defining the jurisdictions of the two divisions.

Decisions have also been taken on the assets that will be retained by the Palakkad Division.

Assets to be transferred

• Main line: 83 km

• Loop line: 32.4 km

• Tunnels: Two — Padil and Kulashekara

• Level crossings: Five

• Major bridges: 17

• Overpasses/underpasses: 12

• Buildings and quarters: 393 — Ullal (25), Mangaluru (320), Mangaluru Junction (45) and other locations (3)

Assets to be retained by Palakkad Division

The Palakkad Division will retain the Bandar Ballast Depot until the expiry of the existing contract.

The post and office will also remain with the Palakkad Division until the Mysuru Division appoints a new Assistant Divisional Engineer (ADEN).

Quarters for employees who are willing to continue working under Southern Railway will be retained until new quarters are constructed. Rooms for inspecting officers will also be retained.

Works and contracts

Works and contracts related to the Mangaluru region, along with the necessary approvals, will be transferred to the Mysuru Division.

However, works, contracts and approvals falling within the jurisdiction of the Palakkad Division will continue to be executed by the Palakkad Division until the completion of the period specified in the respective contracts.

The Palakkad Division will also hand over all drawings related to bridges, foot overbridges, retaining walls and other civil infrastructure to the Mysuru Division.
