Palakkad rail division bifurcation: Just 2 days left for Mysuru division to take charge of Mangaluru

Payyanur: The Mangaluru railway sector under Southern Railway’s Palakkad Division is set to officially detach on Wednesday midnight, marking a major administrative realignment. Beginning Thursday, October 1, the Mysuru Division of South Western Railway will formally assume operational control over the region. Senior officials from both railway divisions are scheduled to arrive in Mangaluru on Wednesday to complete the official handover procedures.

A dedicated railway control board for managing train operations across the Mangaluru zone has already been commissioned within the Mysuru Division. Freight handling trial runs to key commercial destinations, including Ullal, Panambur, Thokur and Bandar, have commenced to familiarise Mysuru Division locomotive pilots with the network.

Mysuru crew will also handle all shunting operations at Mangaluru Central and Mangaluru Junction starting October 1. Current train service schedules and maintenance operations at the Mangaluru coach depot will remain unaffected during the initial transition.

Operational infrastructure shift to Kannur and Ullal

The designated operational interchange point between Southern Railway and South Western Railway will officially shift from Padil to Ullal. As part of the restructuring, the primary locomotive pilot and train manager (guard) crew depot will relocate from Mangaluru to Kannur.

The transfer of the Mangaluru pit line facilities to Mysuru Division significantly enhances prospects for establishing a dedicated pit line infrastructure at Kannur station. In addition, feasibility studies are underway to lay extra tracks at Manjeshwaram and Kumbla to streamline freight handling and train interchange logistics.
