Kochi: WhatsApp chats between Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil and the survivor in a rape case have surfaced. The complainant, a woman from Pathanamthitta, has alleged that, along with sexual assault, she also faced serious financial exploitation.

According to sources, the survivor has submitted chat records to the investigation team in which Rahul allegedly repeatedly pressured her to invest money for purchasing a luxury 3BHK flat in Palakkad. She has further claimed that Rahul was particular that the apartment had to be a 3BHK unit.

In addition to the chats, the survivor has submitted audio messages, alleging that Rahul demanded money for foreign trips and misused her funds. She claims her money was spent on expensive clothes, watches and footwear, including shoes costing up to ₹10,000.

Allegations of relationship, pregnancy and DNA test

The survivor says the relationship began when she was facing problems in her married life. After the two became close through social media, Rahul allegedly called her to a hotel, where she says she was sexually assaulted during the first meeting. She further alleges that Rahul later insisted she should have a child to keep the relationship intact.

According to the complaint, once she became pregnant, Rahul’s attitude changed. He allegedly denied paternity, pressured her to undergo an abortion and refused to cooperate with a DNA test despite repeated requests.

Claims of funding foreign trips and threats

The complainant has also alleged that Rahul went on two trips to the UK using money taken from her. She claims she was made to pay for costly personal purchases as well.

She further alleges that when other sexual assault complaints emerged against Rahul and she stated that she too would file a complaint, he threatened to harm her parents and sister, warning that the entire family would be ‘wiped out.’

Rahul Mamkootathil was arrested on Sunday

Rahul Mamkootathil was arrested in connection with the third rape complaint registered against him. Police reportedly acted with high secrecy to prevent him from going into hiding. He was arrested from a hotel in Palakkad on January 11, 2026, after initially resisting and later cooperating.

Rahul is currently in 14-day judicial remand and has applied for bail. In his bail plea, he has claimed that all allegations are false and intended to defame him. He argues that the relationship was consensual, that he was unaware the woman was married, and that he withdrew from the relationship after learning that fact. He has also stated that the hotel room was booked by the complainant, not by him.
