Massive protests at Pathanamthitta hospital as MLA Rahul Mamkootathil taken for medical examination

Pathanamthitta: A statewide protest is underway against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil. In Palakkad, the BJP Mandal Committee marched to the MLA’s office, demanding his resignation and also burning an effigy of Rahul.
Meanwhile, DYFI staged a protest by distributing pothichor (packed rice) in front of Pathanamthitta General Hospital, recalling an earlier incident when Rahul and other Congress leaders had publicly shamed them. Police are still struggling to control the crowd and escort him safely into a vehicle after his medical examination.
Earlier in the day, Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil was shifted to Pathanamthitta General Hospital for a medical examination on Sunday, where DYFI and BJP Yuva Morcha activists staged black-flag protests in front of the hospital as he arrived. Police were reportedly trying to control the crowd during the unrest.
It is learnt that after the medical examination, Rahul will be produced before the Magistrate.
After his arrest, Rahul was taken to the hospital for a medical examination, accompanied by police officials. Large numbers of protesters had gathered at the hospital, shouting slogans and demanding that he step down as MLA. Police had a tough time controlling the crowd, which continued to raise slogans against him. Some protesters said that his continuation as MLA would send the wrong message to the public. When Rahul was taken out of the police vehicle, he was booed by the crowd, forcing the police to take measures to ensure his safe entry into the hospital.
Rahul was taken into police custody in the early hours of Sunday following a fresh complaint alleging rape and abetment of abortion. The arrest took place around 12.30 a.m. at the KPM Hotel, where he had been staying for the past two days.
Police sources said the action was initiated after a young woman submitted a new complaint via email. Her statement was recorded by a special investigation team.
