Shafi pushes for poll date rescheduling due to Kalpathi Ratholsavam, points out practical challenges

Palakkad: Shafi Parampil, MP from Vadakara and former MLA from Palakkad, has called for the postponement of the polling date for the by-election in the Palakkad Assembly Constituency, scheduled for November 13 which coincides with the Kalpathi Ratholsavam. He noted that the festival holds significant importance for the region, attracting visitors from outside the state.
Shafi Parampil informed the Election Commission that conducting the election on the same day would pose practical difficulties.
He also attempted to communicate this through the Collector's office. The matter was raised during an all-party meeting as well during which there was a consensus to explore the possibility of holding the election earlier. He mentioned that there is also a polling date set for November 20, which was part of the discussions. He added that the final decision rests with the Election Commission.
The by-elections for Palakkad, Chelakkara and Wayanad have been scheduled for November 13. It is apprehended that conducting the election on the same day as that of the Kalpathi Ratholsavam would pose significant challenges for the Palakkad constituency.
