Only ‘Kochi-specific’ waste to reach Brahmapuram treatment plant: Reports

Kochi: Reports have emerged that a review meeting held under the superintendence of the local self-department, law department and industrial department has decided to limit the waste intake at the Brahmapuram treatment plant. Only the waste generated under the Kochi Corporation limit will be taken to the Brahmapuram plant, the reports said.
The deliberation reportedly held that the existing setup of gathering waste from nearby local bodies including five municipalities will cease on April 30. The respective local bodies will have to find sites for waste dumping, reports added. The apparent move is aimed at the mission of managing waste at the source itself.
Meanwhile, authorities concerned last month slapped Rs 54 lakh as a fine on entities (houses, commercial establishments) for dumping waste on roadsides in the Corporation limits.
