Death of ITI student at Nedumangad; police take fiance into custody

Thiruvananthapuram: Nedumangad Valiyamala Police have taken the fiance of ITI student who was found dead on Sunday, into custody. The student was found dead by suicide hanging in the kitchen of her house at Vanchuvam on Sunday around 12 pm. According to the police, the student who died was Namitha (19), of Nedumangad, a first year ITI student. Sandeep, Namitha’s fiance has been taken into custody by the police in connection with the death.
He was taken into custody following the contradictions found in his statements made to the police earlier. According to Sandeep's statement, he had visited Namitha earlier that morning. After their conversation, he left the house and later called her, but she did not answer. Concerned, he returned to the house and found Namitha hanging in the kitchen. He informed neighbors and rushed her to the Nedumangad District Hospital, but her life could not be saved.
Discrepancies in Sandeep's statement led the police to detain him for further investigation. It was revealed that Namitha and Sandeep were engaged two years ago and were in a romantic relationship. Police suspect a recent argument may have contributed to the incident. Sandeep reportedly saw a photo of Namitha with another young man on her phone, which might have triggered their conversation.
The postmortem confirmed that Namitha died by hanging. However, the police are investigating whether Sandeep played any role in her death or if his actions indirectly led to the suicide. The authorities aim to clarify these doubts through further interrogation.
