Nurse saves passenger's life on Parasuram Express by giving CPR and reviving pulse

Aluva: In a quick act of thinking and skill, a nurse saved the life of a fellow passenger who had collapsed during a train journey on the Parasuram Express. 

The incident occurred when Susheela, a native of Karunagappally in Kollam, fell seriously ill while travelling to Ernakulam with her daughter to visit a sick relative. As the train passed Tripunithura station, Susheela suddenly lost consciousness. Her daughter’s screams alerted other passengers.

Amita Kuriakose, a cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurse at Rajagiri Hospital in Aluva, was travelling in an adjacent compartment. Hearing the distress calls, she rushed to assist. After assessing the situation, she found Susheela had no pulse.

Without hesitation, Amita laid Susheela down on the floor and immediately began administering CPR. She performed chest compressions five times, successfully restoring Susheela’s pulse and making her eyes to open.

Meanwhile, a passenger had already pulled the emergency chain to stop the train, and railway staff arrived shortly. The timely intervention of Amita Kuriakose was praised by the TTE and fellow passengers.
