Puduppally MLA Chandy Oommen has reacted to the dissatisfaction among A-group leaders over his exclusion from the Cabinet, saying that being without a post is actually better. He pointed out that Oommen Chandy had faced a similar situation 25 years ago, and it is natural for group leaders to feel upset as history appears to have repeated itself.

“Not having a position is better because it allows me to work more freely for the people. I plan to travel across all 140 constituencies from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram. If I had become a minister, I might have been confined to a limited role. I already hold a position among the people, and I am going back to them to strengthen that bond. That will continue throughout the next 5 years,” Chandy Oommen told Mathrubhumi News.

Responding to reports that A-group leaders are planning to approach the AICC over his exclusion from the Cabinet, he said, “That is their freedom. I have nothing special to say about it. The A-group sees Oommen Chandy in me, and that is why they feel this disappointment.”

He added that Oommen Chandy had faced a similar political situation 25 years ago and that the emotions seen among leaders now reflect the sentiments of the people as well. “Justice was done to Oommen Chandy when Kerala got a Congress Chief Minister. There is no demand that Oommen Chandy’s son should become a minister or that Puduppally must have a minister. Congress coming to power itself is the biggest justice,” he said.

Flex boards seek Chandy Oommen as KPCC chief

Meanwhile, flex boards demanding that Chandy Oommen be made the KPCC president have appeared near the MLA Hostel in Thiruvananthapuram. The boards, put up in the name of “Congress Thiruvananthapuram,” come amid intense discussions over who will succeed Sunny Joseph as KPCC president after he was inducted into the Cabinet.
