Online wedding amid COVID: Bride in Thrissur ties knot with groom in New Zealand

Thrissur: Covid and lockdown have changed the lifestyle of everyone to a great extent. Online classes, online meetings, online works and online marriages have become the norm. Bride and groom ‘trapped’ in two places due to Covid restrictions opt for online marriage so that their dreams don't have to wait. Very recently, Thriprayar native Keerthana Jyothi and Kaipamangalam native Nirmal Das tied the knot virtually.
The duo, who got engaged in 2019 , planned to tie the knot in September 2020 . But Covid and lockdown came to play spoil sport.
Nirmal is an Engineer in New Zealand. Due to the COVID curbs, he has been unable to travel to India for more than 2 years. Keerthana is a VHSE teacher. As the restrictions got extended they enquired about the possibilities of online marriage.
"The application was filed at the Thriprayar register office in November last year. Then, both families met a lawyer and inquired about ways to register the marriage under the Special Marriage Act. Once the permission was granted they got ready for the online wedding. Nirmal's father put his signature on behalf of Nirmal before the registrar and other relatives signed as witnesses. Nirmal was also present through video conference," said Keerthana.
