Nipah 2023: Control room to remain active for 21 more days, says Kerala Health Minister

Kozhikode: Kerala Health Minister Veena George on Thursday informed that the control room open in the wake of the Nipah outbreak in the district will function for 21 more days. 

According to the minister, the Nipah-related measures including the control room will be active for 21 more days. “ Nipah was confirmed on September 12.  October 5 marks the passing of 21 days after the last Nipah-positive case was reported. For safety, another 21 days will be observed as a double incubation period, and measures like a control room will remain active,” the minister said. 

She was addressing the media after the zonal review meeting. 

All those who were on the contact list of the Nipah-affected individuals in the present have completed their isolation period, the minister added. 

The Kerala government had withdrawn containment in all zones, and allied restrictions imposed 

However, the district authorities advised people to continue vigil against the viral infection, maintain social distancing, and ensure the use of masks and sanitizer. 

A total of six cases of Nipah virus infection were reported in the recent outbreak of which two persons died.
