Nilambur by-election: Voter turnout reaches 73.26 percent as the polling ends

Nilambur: Following the completion of mock polling, the official polling has commenced for the Nilambur by-election. Voters began casting their franchise at 7.00 am amid hot political scenarios.
Nilambur witnessed an intense and spirited culmination of the campaign on Wednesday. The voting will be held till 6.00 pm. A total of 10 candidates are in the election battle. Adv Mohan George (NDA), Aryadan Shoukath (UDF), M Swaraj (LDF), P V Anvar (Independent), Adv Sadik Naduthodi (SDPI), N Jayarajan (Independent), P Radhakrishnan Namboodiripad (Independent), Vijayan (Independent), Satish Kumar (Independent), Harinarayanan (Independent) are the candidates.
Voting from home was allowed to 1254 people and was completed on June 16. There are a total of 263 polling stations, including 9 new ones. 315 voting machines, the reserve and 341 VVPAT have been set up.

As of 9 am, 8.00% of voters had cast their ballots in the Nilambur Assembly by-election. The constituency has a total of 2,32,381 registered voters, including 1,13,613 males, 1,18,760 females, and 8 transgender individuals.
LDF candidate M. Swaraj cast his vote at the Government LP School in Mudiri. UDF candidate Aryadan Shoukath voted at booth number 184, located at Vettikuthu Government LP School in Nilambur.
Independent MLA PV Anwar is expected to visit the polling booth at the Model UP School, which has no votes in this constituency.
Polling gained pace by 9:30 am., with Nilambur registering the voter turnout at 13.15 percent.
As polling progressed steadily, Nilambur reported a 20 percent turnout by 10:00 am.
Undeterred by the rain, voters in Nilambur came out in significant numbers, pushing the turnout to 30.15 percent by 11 am.
As the polling ended, voter turnout among the assembly by-elections, reached 73.26 percent.
