Kerala CM’s ‘Mukhamukham’ event nothing but farce: VD Satheesan

Alappuzha: Opposition leader VD Satheesan on Saturday launched a scathing attack against the CPM-led LDF government in Kerala. 

He said that “the BJP government in the centre and the CPM in Kerala are both trying to create communal divide in the society to expand their vote base.” 

Satheesan also ridiculed Pinarayi Vijayan’s face-to-face interaction programme (Mukhamukham programme) as a mere scripted stage show. 

“I am sure that no valid questions against the government will be raised during the interaction with the CM. Come on, we all know that the government have already prepared a list of people who could ask questions to CM. It is nothing but farce” he said.

Speaking about the financial crisis in the state, VD Satheesan said that the “centre only owes funds amounting to Rs 3,100 crores, unlike what is being claimed by the state. According to Kerala, the pending payments add up to Rs 57,800 crores.” 

Satheesan argued that “the state's economic condition has worsened during the shift from 14th to 15th finance commission.” He criticised the state government for borrowing beyond its budget and stated that UDF MPs had brought the pressing issues to the notice of the union ministry.

The CPM government’s reluctance to denotify the land acquired for K-Rail also came under heavy criticism. Satheesan alleged that “the state government’s high-handedness in the matter has made life extremely difficult for the people. UDF will never allow K-Rail to be implemented in the state.”       

The opposition leader also expressed solidarity with the protests against sand mining in Thottappally. 

Satheesan also did not mince his words while criticising the BJP. He accused the party in power at the centre of threatening several companies using the investigative agencies at their disposal and of looting crores of money from them.
