Former Kerala Excise Minister M R Reghuchandrabal passes away at 75

Thiruvananthapuram: Senior Congress leader M R Reghuchandrabal passed away at the age of 75 on Saturday at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram after an illness. He was a two-time MLA representing the Kovalam and Parassala constituencies in 1980 and 1991, respectively. Reghuchandrabal served as the excise minister in K Karunakaran’s government from 1991 to 1995. Earlier, he was also the president of the Kanjiramkulam panchayat from 1980.

Apart from his political career, Reghuchandrabal was involved in cultural activities, writing poems, composing dramas, and even acting in some of them. He was known for personally engaging in excise enforcement activities, such as entering forests to track illicit brewers.

He is survived by his wife, C M Omana and two children, including R Prapanch IAS and R Vivek. His long political and cultural contributions have left a significant legacy in Kerala politics and society.
