Thiruvananthapuram pays final respects to Kanam; public homage till 2 pm

Thiruvananthapuram: The mortal remains of veteran CPI leader Kanam Rajendran was brought to Thiruvananthapuram in a specially arranged flight. Party workers paid respect to their beloved leader at the airport. Kanam’s body will be kept for public homage at the PS Memorial in Pattom.
Ministers K Rajan, P Prasad, CPI leader Binoy Viswam and Kanam’s son Sandeep had also boarded the flight carrying the mortal remains of the communist leader in Kochi. Minister GR Anil and senior leaders from the ruling and opposition parties arrived in Thiruvananthapuram airport to pay last respects to Kanam Rajendran.
Earlier, it was planned that the leader’s body will be taken to his son’s residence in Edapazhanji for sometime. But the plan was cancelled owing to time restrictions.
The cortege will move to Kottayam later in the afternoon by road. The funeral procession will pass through the districts of Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha before it finally reaches Kottayam district. Thousands are expected to gather on the roadsides to have a glimpse of their favourite leader.
After arriving in Kottayam, Kanam’s body will be kept for public homage at the CPI district committee office. Later, his mortal remains will be taken to his residence in Vazhoor. The funeral ceremony will be held on Sunday at 11 am.
Kanam is regarded as one of the strongest communist leaders in the history of Kerala.
