Thrissur: Kunnamkulam MLA AC Moideen accused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of setting up the perfect stage for actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi in Thrissur, for contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. He also alleged that the Padayatra (march) conducted in Karuvannur was a precursor to his intentions.

“BJP is exploiting the situation. We all know that Suresh Gopi is someone who is adamant about contesting in Thrissur despite consecutive defeats in the past. And now the ED is literally campaigning for him, in his third bid for election glory, that’s all. However, CPM has no problems with all these. We are least bothered,” said AC Moideen.

“Coming to the Karuvannur scam, actually, the crime branch had launched a foolproof investigation into the incident. Over Rs 72 crores was made available to the bank through various interventions. The depositors have started receiving back their money, Rs 17 crores has been deposited in the government bank as well, as part of damage control measures. Why should the ED take away all the property deeds stored at the bank, when all the details they need are readily available in the computers? Miscreants have been spreading lies projecting all the co-operative bannks functioning in the state as money laundering agencies. In addition to this, a fake report claiming that the 91-year-old mother of Aravindakshan (accused in Karuvannur scam) held a deposit of Rs 63 lakhs in a bank, was submitted in court. It's pathetic state of affairs,” he concluded.

Earlier, ED had quizzed Moideen multiple times over the Karuvannur scam. Also, CPM state secretary MV Govindan claimed that the Centre is using ED to destroy the cooperative sector in Kerala. He too alleged that ED is laying the ground for Gopi to contest in the Thrissur constituency.
