MM Mani sparks row; ‘Kill wild animals if they threaten human lives’

Idukki: CPM leader MM Mani has sparked controversy by stating that wild animals posing a threat to human lives should be dealt with and, if necessary, killed. He also sharply criticised the Forest Department and Forest Minister Shibu Baby John for failing to prevent increasing wildlife attacks.
Mani alleged that the newly appointed Forest Minister has little understanding of the issue. He made the remarks while responding to questions about the minister's statement that there is no "single solution" to wildlife attacks.
According to Mani, any animal that endangers human life should be confronted, and if there is no other option, there is nothing wrong in killing it. He added that people in the High Range regions have traditionally lived by facing and coping with threats from wild animals.
His comments came amid growing concern over escalating wildlife attacks in Idukki, particularly in the district's hilly areas. A woman was killed in a wild elephant attack in Chinnakanal recently. Following the incident, the CPM has decided to intensify protests against the government over the issue.
