Kannur: A MBBS student, who is a huge fan of KSRTC buses, could not stay aloof after hearing the distress of a KSRTC driver and his family. Vinayak, a Kannur native and a second year student of Govt Medical College in Manjeri, had strived a lot to help Biju, a driver in the Thiruvananthapuram KSRTC depot.

Vinayak sought financial aid from the students of Pariyaram, Kozhikode, Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram medical colleges to lend a helping hand for Biju. He also posted the need for financial help on social media. He collected Rs 1 lakh within a short period. Vinayak visited Biju’s house with his friends and handed over the amount.

Vinayak said that he travelled on almost all KSRTC routes in Kerala and came to know about Biju on a similar journey. Biju was going through severe financial distress due to the expenses of his wife’s cancer treatment and loan repayment. Before commencing to raise fund, Vinayak visited Biju’s house in Neyyattinkara to ensure whatever he heard was right.

Rs 96,000 was raised within three weeks which turned to Rs 1 lakh with the support of family. His father Ashokan, mother Sreelatha, who is a professor at Ayurveda college and sister Nopura held Vinayak on his endeavours.
