Kochi: Minister M.B. Rajesh on Monday dismissed the controversy surrounding a letter allegedly submitted to the CPM Politburo by a businessman, which reportedly carried his name among others.

Speaking to reporters in Kochi, Rajesh said that the party secretary MV Govindan had already responded to the matter and that the so-called letter had been circulating on WhatsApp for the past four years.

“This letter has been floating around on WhatsApp for the last four years. Now, with elections only a few months away, such discarded letters are being brought back. Turning such baseless claims into news and celebrating them is unfortunate,” Rajesh said.

He further pointed out that during the previous Assembly elections, the appointment of his wife was made into a controversy, but that too disappeared after the polls. “These attempts are only meant to insult people. Earlier, I used to be disturbed by such allegations, but now I don’t give them any value,” he added.

When asked whether he knew UK-based businessman and CPM member Rajesh Krishna, Rajesh declined to answer directly.

“I understood the meaning behind that question. At this point, there is nothing that requires clarification. I am here, and that itself is the answer,” he remarked.

The controversy erupted after a letter submitted by Chennai-based businessman Mohammed Sharshad to the CPM Politburo was made public.
