No scientific evidence in Mayookha’s complaint on friend's rape, Police tells court

Thrissur: The Police found no scientific evidence in the complaint of Olympian Mayookha Johny in connection with the rape of her friend in 2016. The police submitted a report in the High court stating that the alleged rape does not have any scientific evidence and they are probing it based on circumstantial evidences only.

The victim herself approached the high court with a petition saying the investigation is not going in the right direction. Following this, SP Poonguzhali submitted the probe report in the court. The incident is alleged to have happened in 2016 and the tower location or the phone details that happened 5 years back is not available. Hence the complaint cannot be verified scientifically, the report stated.

The scientific investigation conducted now shows that the accused was present 5 kilometres away from the location of the hospital and is clear from the tower location.  Police have recorded the statement of the doctor who examined the victim. All this was included in the report submitted by the police.

The incident happened in 2016 and the Olympian had levelled serious allegations against the Kerala police and a former official of the state women’s commission in connection with the rape of her friend in 2016. Mayookha had alleged that her friend was raped by a man, who took her nude photos and used them to blackmail her.

Police had registered a case against Olympian Mayookha Johny and nine others for allegedly raising false rape allegations following a court directive on a complaint from a former trustee of a local religious outfit.
