‘Massive flop’: Kerala Police take veiled dig at Aswanth Kok with film review of alleged drunk drive

Kerala Police have taken a satirical swipe at outspoken film reviewer and YouTuber Aswanth Kok, a day after he was taken into custody in Kozhikode over an alleged drunk-driving incident.

Kok was detained on Monday evening after local residents and fellow motorists reportedly stopped his car on Kottaram Road at Eranhipalam. The vehicle was allegedly being driven recklessly and had scraped against three other vehicles.

Officers from Nadakkavu police station reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. They took Kok into custody and moved his car to the police station.

Police said Kok appeared to be heavily intoxicated when he was brought to the station. He was subsequently taken to Beach Hospital for a blood test to determine his blood alcohol level.

Authorities said a formal case would be registered after receiving the official blood test results. 

The incident occurred after members of the public reportedly noticed the vehicle being driven dangerously in the area. According to the police, nearby motorists and residents blocked the car after it allegedly hit or scraped multiple vehicles on Kottaram Road and alerted the authorities.

Kok has a substantial online following for his outspoken and candid commentary on films.

Kerala Police turn incident into movie-style post

On Tuesday, the official Kerala Police social media handle published a post presented in the style of a film review, appearing to refer to the incident involving Kok.

The post described the alleged journey as a film that begins with full speed in the first half and moves into fines and legal cases in the second. It gave the journey a rating of zero out of 10 and called it a “massive flop”.

An accompanying poster described the incident as an “unnecessary thriller” centred on drinking and driving and gave it a one-star “drive” rating.

The graphic presented the alleged incident as a routine blunder with an “illogical script”, saying its climax could end either in a police lock-up or a hospital.

It listed the supposed production costs as court fines and hospital expenses, while describing the audience reaction as family tears and public condemnation.

Police warning on drunk driving

Ending the post, Kerala Police said drunk driving was neither a joke nor an adventure.

The police warned that a single poor decision could put every other road user at risk and urged motorists to choose a safe way to return home after drinking.

The social media post came a day after Kok's detention and used the language and presentation of a film review, echoing the style for which the YouTuber is known.
