Thiruvananthapuram: A Sri Lankan woman travelled to Kazhakoottam in search of a man she alleges deceived her by concealing his marital status, in a case that has since involved multiple police interventions and a missing person complaint.

Police said the woman, aged 29, and Nazeem (34), a resident of Kanayapuram Pallinada, worked together at a shopping mall in Abu Dhabi. Investigators said Nazeem allegedly led her to believe he was unmarried, and the two subsequently lived together for around eight months.

Nazeem returned to India three months ago and did not go back to Abu Dhabi. The woman later discovered she was pregnant and arrived in Thiruvananthapuram a month ago to trace him.

According to police accounts, the woman searched for Nazeem across Pothencode, Mangalam and Kadinamkulam areas, where he was eventually located.

Officials said Nazeem then arranged rented accommodation for her in Pothencode. A pregnancy termination procedure was later carried out at a private hospital in the city, after which she was sent back. She was allegedly assured that he would follow her later.

After returning to Abu Dhabi, the woman was unable to contact Nazeem. She returned to Kazhakoottam on 7 May.

Police said Nazeem arranged a lodge room for her stay. A dispute reportedly broke out between them during this period, and the woman sustained injuries while attempting to prevent him from leaving.

She was admitted to a private hospital for treatment, from where Nazeem allegedly left the premises without notice.

Hospital authorities alerted police, who recorded the woman’s statement. Nazeem was later summoned to the Kazhakoottam police station. His wife and relatives also arrived at the station in support of him.

The woman was subsequently shifted to a government-run shelter home. She was later moved to the mental health centre at Peroorkada after reportedly exhibiting signs of psychological distress. After treatment, she was discharged.

Missing complaint filed

Police said a fresh complaint has now been filed after the woman reported that Nazeem is missing again. Further investigation is underway.
