My comments on ‘love traps’ are based on facts: Mar Joseph Pamplany

Kannur: Mar Joseph Pamplany, the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Tellicherry, has reiterated that the "love traps" targeting young women belonging to the Christian community are real. These are factual statements, the Bishop told Mathrubhumi news. He added that his statement does not invoke religious rivalry. I am only pointing out the concern of parents about their children treading on the wrong paths, he said.
The pastoral letter with claims of love traps was read out in the churches last Sunday. The letter reads that the love trap has left many parents in despair and necessary instruction must be issued by the church.
“Love that resets the course of a woman's life and jeopardises her future is not real love. This is why I termed it a love trap. The church has clear records to show how many such instances have occurred. I gave that statement based on these facts. I have not targeted any particular religion through my comments,” the Bishop said.
Earlier, some Christian churches in Kerala had joined the bandwagon of Hindutva forces in alleging that Muslim youth marry women from other religion and forcefully convert them. They said it was an organised activity.
