Man tries to self-immolate in Thrissur alleging hotel owner refused to pay his salary

Thrissur: Young man attempted to self-immolate in front of a hotel in Thrissur alleging that the owner had not paid him four months of salary. The incident happened on Friday evening at MG Road in Thrissur. Timely intervention from police and locals helped to ease the tension. The man was later taken into police custody.
Asif, a Mysore native, attempted self-immolation by pouring kerosene on himself. He alleged that the hotel owner refused to pay his four months of salary which is around Rs 2 lakh. He said that he resorts to suicide after not receiving justice at the hands of the police and labour office.
He tried to self-immolate in front of the newly opened hotel in the presence of his wife and onlookers. The owner said that the hotel was open for just one month and asked how could he pay salary for four months. The police have filed a case and started an investigation.
