Man injured in wild elephant attack dies in Thrissur

Thrissur: A man who was injured in a wild elephant attack in Palappilly here passed away. The man, identified as Hussain, was undergoing treatment for over a week after being injured. Hussain had special training and was part of the gang that chases wild animals back into forests.
Hussain was injured on September 4. He had gone along with a herd of Kumki elephants to send a wild elephant back to the forest. The Kumki elephants were tied to a corner and Hussain was inspecting the place when a wild elephant came running and attacked him. The elephant hit Hussain using its trunk and he was badly injured.
Hussain was admitted to Jubilee Mission Hospital in Thrissur. By Wednesday noon, his health deteriorated and he was shifted to a hospital in Ernakulam. Many wild elephant spottings were reported in Palappilly during recent times. The forest department brought Kumki elephants from Wayanad to drive away the wild elephants.
