Kozhikode: A luxury car in which a couple of smugglers were travelling fell into a ditch at Avilora in Koduvally. The police have taken one of them under police custody. While smuggler Anuvind, a native of Thamarassery, was held by the cops, the other accused, Habbeb Rahman, who is a native of Katharammal, fled the spot while police were checking the vehicle.

The accident happened early Saturday morning. A Benz car (KL 57 N 6067) lost control and fell into a ditch, landing on the courtyard of a house located downhill. As the inmates of the house approached the vehicle after hearing the noise, they found the duo (smugglers) in an unconscious state. As they gained consciousness, the smugglers started searching for substances in the car, raising suspicion among the locals. The people gathered there recovered drugs and an electronic weighing machine from the car. They caught hold of the smugglers, and later on, handed them over to the Koduvally police.

Amidst the chaos, the duo had thrown out a packet from the vehicle. A team of police led by SI Anoop Areekara recovered a total of 3.5 grams of MDMA from the wallet of the accused and from the accident site.
