Palakkad: Minister A K Balan said that lockdown has been declared in Pattambi taluk and Nellaya panchayat in Palakkad district. Necessary action will be taken in other places after thorough review of the situation.

People in Muthuthala and Thrithala also are detected with COVID symptoms. More rapid tests will be conducted here and actions will be taken later, the minister said.

Strict restrictions should be followed in the places where lockdown is implemented. In order to prevent disease transmission from one cluster to another, we have to make sure that it is contained in one cluster, the minister said.

Pattambi in Palakkad district has turned into a COVID cluster in connection with the market in Pattambi. Containment should be practiced in Pattambi to prevent the disease from spreading to other places.

Police, fire force, hospital, government offices and essential services will be allowed to function. People should go out only for emergency purposes. Public transportation will not be allowed.

The vehicles passing through the area should not let people enter the vehicle or alight there. The district administration decided to impose restrictions as the clusters can likely to lead to super spread and community spread.

The situation in the district can be understood after completing 4500 rapid antigen tests, the minister stated. The test will be conducted in 47 centres including two municipalities. Among them, 28 are containment zones, the minister added.
