LSGs will continue to help individuals with critical diseases

Kollam: The local self-government departments (LSGs) will continue to aid individuals affected by critical diseases in the upcoming financial year too. It was in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 that the state government allowed local self-governments to provide financial aid. The same was continued in 2021 too.
The objective of the program is to buy lifesaving medicines and provide to individuals with cancer, organ transplant recipients and those undergoing dialysis. The medicines are provided by health institutions (hospitals) controlled by LSGs.
From next fiscal year, the financial aid provided to dialysis patients will be maximum of Rs 4,000 per month. The money will be directly going to the health institutions.
Priority is given to SC/ST, BPL and fisherfolk families.
The medicines are made available to the patients by primary health centres based on the directions of the doctors. LSGs can use own funds or allocate funds that is earmarked for maintenance of roads for this purpose.
