For the first time, LDF seizes Nilambur municipality

Malappuram: Nilambur, the lone UDF-administrated municipality in the district has fallen into the hands of LDF this time. Out of the 33 divisions, 22 seats were won by the Left while UDF could only manage to win nine divisions.
Ever since Nilambur municipality came into existence in 2010, UDF had been ruling for two terms. When Nilambur was the grama panchayat, LDF had ruled once. In the previous Assembly election also, LDF had won here.
Another speciality is that the BJP has opened its account in the municipality. Vijayanarayanan, who contested in the second division, won with clear majority while CPM’s Balakrishnan came second.
Aryadan Shoukath, who was the Panchayat president in 2005, became the first president of Nilambur municipality in 2010. In 2015, Congress Padmini Gopinath won the fray.
