Learner’s licence renewal made easy; No eye test needed

# News Desk

Thiruvananthapuram: The Motor Vehicles Department has waived the requirement of eye test for renewing a learner’s licence. A learner’s licence is valid for six months.

Those who fail to obtain a permanent driving licence within this period have to renew their learner’s licence. Under the existing rules, they were required to undergo an eye test again and submit a medical certificate.

It has also been decided to issue the digital driving licence on the same day the applicant passes the driving test. A team consisting of a Motor Vehicle Inspector and an Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector has been permitted to conduct up to 40 driving tests and 50 vehicle fitness inspections per day. This move is expected to reduce the rush for vehicle fitness checks.
