Kochi: In the wake of the allegation levelled by a Bengali actress against director Ranjith, Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan has called for his resignation as chairman of Chalachithra Academy. Speaking to reporters in Kochi on Saturday, Satheesan urged Ranjith, whom he referred as a brother and friend, to step down from the position. “I believe, he would step down,” Satheesan said.

“What Saji Cherian has said about Ranjith is quite true, as I too share the same opinion. Ranjith is a very good film director. He has also given many good movies to Malayalam cinema,” said Satheesan.

“The remark of Saji Cherian in connection with the solar case is like a confession. With this confession, it has become clear that the Pinarayi Government was targeting Oommen Chandy and other Congress leaders,” he said.

“It is better for Saji Cherian to resign from the post of Cultural Affairs Minister as he justifies the predators and denounces the victims. He, as part of the government, played a role in keeping the Hema Committee report in cold storage and releasing a distorted version of it. He is not fit for this job. Since he has committed three offenses—breach of oath, shirking legal responsibility, and making alterations in the Hema Committee report while releasing it, deviating from the directions issued by the Right to Information Commission—Saji Cherian should resign from the post of Cultural Affairs Minister,” Satheesan said.
