Thiruvananthapuram: The decision to grant parole to Kodi Suni was made by the Chief Minister's Office, alleged opposition leader V.D. Satheesan. While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, he said that the CPM made such a decision out of fear of the accused. Satheesan further accused the CPM of being worried about the conspiracy behind the murder of T.P. Chandrasekharan would be exposed.

The granting of parole to Kodi Suni, a convict in the T.P. murder case, has already sparked intense arguments between the ruling and opposition leaders. K.K. Rema, T.P. Chandrasekharan’s wife and MLA, questioned the basis on which parole was granted to Kodi Suni.

Suni has been granted a 30-day parole. The prison department took the action after considering a letter from the Human Rights Commission. Suni’s mother had filed an application with the Human Rights Commission. Previously, parole had been denied as Sunil was an accused in other cases while serving his sentence. The parole was granted following the recommendations of the Human Rights Commission.

Meanwhile, Suni’s family said that his health was poor and that the parole should not be made controversial. Suni’s mother and daughter argued that, like other accused, Suni also deserved parole.

Upon receiving parole, Suni was released from Thavanoor Jail on December 28. Parole was granted despite a police report against it. Prison authorities had also attempted to keep the information about Sunil’s parole and release confidential.

Kodi Suni is the third accused in the T.P. murder case. He is serving a double life sentence. Parole had previously been denied due to his involvement in other cases, including using a mobile phone in jail, coordinating activities of quotation gangs, assaulting prison staff, and attempting to create a riot in Viyyur High-Security Jail with other inmates. Following these incidents, Suni was transferred to Thavanoor Jail on November 9, 2023.
