This lady driver can take you outside state in her taxi

Kochi: There are a lot of lady taxi drivers in Kerala who render their services within the state. However, Sakkeena is not one of them. She has no hesitation to take her taxi to other states as part of her work.

She has driven till Andhra Pradesh besides covering Kasaragod- Thiruvananthapuram route several times. She can be labelled as the first female professional taxi driver in Kerala. Kozhikode native Sakkeena has been living in Kochi for more than a year as part of exploring her options as a taxi driver.

Sakkeena learned to drive after her marriage. She used to own luxury cars at one stage. However, the family faced financial difficulties after her husband suffered a great loss in his business at Gulf. Even their house was attached by the bank.

Sakkeena is trying to contribute whatever she can for the sake of her family. Both her daughters supported Sakkeena’s decision to take up the profession. She used to drive around with her relatives in her car a lot. It was this experience that gave her the confidence to take up the decision.

Sakkeena said that she has been riding the taxi for eight years now. She joined a star hotel as driver a year back. Now she has lost that job as the hotel has been closed down due to the pandemic. Now she is working in association with a travel agency.

She provides her service for passengers travelling with their families. She is living with her youngest daughter in Kochi. The eldest daughter is living in Bangalore after marriage.
