Protests intensify in Kuttiyadi; CPM plans to take back seat from Kerala Congress

Kuttiyadi: The CPM leadership is worried over the protest march in Kuttiyadi where party workers vented their anger against the decision to allocate the seat to its new ally Kerala Congress (M). CPM feels that offering the Kuttiyadi seat may cause a huge setback politically to the party. There are also reports that the party is trying to appease the Kerala Congress to get back the seat as the protests continue to flare up.
The state leadership held discussions with Kozhikode district leaders. The state leadership will also hold talks with Jose K Mani faction and discuss several issues including getting back the Kuttiyadi seat. Earlier, Jose K Mani had announced the candidate list for the Assembly polls excluding the Kuttiyadi seat.
Several hundred party workers of CPM took out protest marches in Kuttiyadi on Wednesday evening holding red flags and shouting slogans which sent the party leadership in jitters. The protest held on Monday also witnessed the participation of local leaders. The protests were led by local committee members and branch committee leaders.
The CPM party is in a fix. Two protests by party workers within a couple of days have shook the rank and file of the party. The party workers want a CPM candidate in Kuttiyadi and the party leadership are trying for a compromise formula.
