Kozhikode: Kudumbashree will now offer new-generation skill training courses under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) 2.0, with the aim of providing training and employment to rural youth.

Courses including AI Developer, Cyber Security and Drone Operator will be offered. The programme aims to ensure employment for 30,272 people across Kerala within four months.

The Central and state governments are jointly providing free skill training to young people in rural areas. As the first step of the second phase, 1,211 people were provided jobs during the last financial year. Training in new courses will be provided to the remaining 29,061 people, with employment targeted by December.

Under the first phase of the programme, 56,665 people in Kerala were provided employment.

Training free of cost

Free training is available to those aged between 18 and 35. The upper age limit is 45 for women, persons with disabilities and those belonging to Scheduled Tribe communities.

Those who have passed Class 10 can choose courses based on their educational qualifications and interests. The state mission will select the empanelled agencies that provide the training.

The courses, which normally cost between ₹80,000 and ₹2 lakh, will be offered free of charge. Fees, uniforms, accommodation, food and study materials will all be provided free.

The training agency will also facilitate employment for the candidates.

Training is expected to begin by mid-September, Kudumbashree officials said. Certificates will be issued by the Sector Skill Councils under the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

Those interested can contact the Kudumbashree office in their respective districts.
