Kudumbashree loan fraud case: Two women taken into police custody

Kochi: The police on Monday took two people into custody in connection with the Kudumbashree loan fraud case. The accused have been identified as Nisha and Deepa, Kudumbashree members of the 20th division of Kochi corporation. They were taken into custody after a detailed interrogation.
Nisha is a member of Drishya group of the 20th division of Kochi corporation, whereas Deepa is a member of another group, Oruma, of the same division.
According to the case, the duo were involved in swindling more than Rs 1 crore using fake seals and signatures of the councillor, CDS chairperson and ADS members. They have also used the photographs and other details of the Kudumbashree group members, without their knowledge, for the loan fraud.
The fraud came to light after a bank employee expressed suspicion over the documents submitted by the Kudumbashree group seeking loan.
Generally, banks offer loans to Kudumbashree groups. However, the group members had already taken a loan from the bank. Following which, the accused took another loan under the group's name using their fake credentials.
Meanwhile, Kochi corporation Mayor M Anilkumar had earlier told mathrubhumi.com that the accused will not be aided in any manner and the loan fraud will be handled legally.
