KSU lodges ‘missing person’ complaint against Thrissur MP Suresh Gopi over absence from constituency

Thrissur: A Kerala Students’ Union (KSU) leader has filed a “missing” complaint with police against Union Minister and Thrissur MP Suresh Gopi, alleging that he has been inaccessible to his constituency for the past three months.

KSU, the student wing of the Congress, said district president Gokul Guruvayoor emailed the complaint to the East Police on Sunday and would submit a hard copy on Monday. He also announced a poster campaign from Monday demanding the whereabouts of the “missing Union minister.”

Gokul alleged that Suresh Gopi has not visited Thrissur in three months and has remained silent over the recent arrest of two Catholic nuns from Kerala in Chhattisgarh, a BJP-ruled state. He criticised Suresh Gopi for allegedly courting the Christian vote during the Lok Sabha election, including gifting a golden crown to a church, but not speaking out on the nuns’ detention.

The KSU leader further claimed that Suresh Gopi was unreachable even when authorities attempted to invite him to inaugurate a major central government project under the Thrissur Corporation. “He is inaccessible not just to ordinary people, but also to those in responsible positions,” Gokul said.

The complaint comes days after Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty and a senior Catholic priest publicly criticised Suresh Gopi for his silence on the incident.
