NEET protest turns tense in Wayanad: KSU leader booked for allegedly slapping police officer

Wayanad: A Kerala Students' Union (KSU) leader has been booked for allegedly assaulting a police officer during a protest in Kerala's Wayanad district against the Centre over the alleged NEET examination paper leak.

Police said the case was registered against KSU Wayanad district president Goutham Gokul Das following a complaint filed by Sub Inspector Bazil Paul. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday during a protest march to the Head Post Office in Kalpetta organised by the Congress-affiliated KSU and Youth Congress.

According to the police, officers stopped the march before it reached its destination, triggering a brief confrontation between protesters and security personnel.

During the scuffle, Das allegedly slapped the sub-inspector while questioning the police action.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for allegedly using criminal force against a public servant with the intent to prevent him from performing his official duty.

Officials said Das will be called in for questioning as part of the investigation, after which a decision on his arrest will be taken.
