Kozhikode: Malabar is about to get a new perspective. KSRTC’s first electric open-roof double-decker bus is ready to hit the streets of Kozhikode, offering tourists and locals a premium sightseeing experience. Minister for Tourism and Public Works P A Mohammed Riyas officially flagged off the vehicle, marking a new chapter for the city's tourism map.

While the ceremonial run is complete, the bus is expected to start its regular public weekend services shortly. With 36 seats on the upper deck and 28 on the lower deck, this eco-friendly initiative aims to showcase the city's heritage and coastal beauty.

Tour timings and operations

The electric double-decker is designed for evening leisure trips, making the most of the city's cooler hours and sunset views.

  • Operating hours: Daily from 3.00 pm to 10.30 pm.
  • Launch date: Regular services are scheduled to begin this weekend.

The scenic route

The tour is curated to cover Kozhikode’s most iconic landmarks, starting from the heart of the city and winding towards the coast.

  • Starting point: KSRTC terminal, Mavoor Road.
  • Key stops: Arayidathupalam, Sarovaram Bio Park, Eranhipalam, English Church and Mananchira Square.
  • Coastal stretch: The route extends to the Beach road, passing through Francis Road, Kothi Bridge, South Beach, Lions Park and Gandhi Road.

Expected fares

While the final tariff is being formalised, officials have indicated a tiered pricing structure to suit different budgets.

  • Upper deck (Open-roof): Approximately ₹200 per seat.
  • Lower deck: Approximately ₹100 per seat.

Passengers can book their tickets via telephone or through an online portal once the service becomes fully operational.
