KSRTC to launch training program for drivers involved in frequent accidents

Kollam: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has taken action to prepare a list of drivers who are habitual accident-offenders and send them for training. According to the findings of the corporation, the habitual offenders are from the Thiruvananthapuram Central, Kottarakkara, Kozhikode, and Ernakulam units. Drivers from these units, as well as those involved in major accidents, will undergo remedial training.
A list of drivers who cause frequent accidents will be prepared and these drivers will be sent for training. Drivers who cause an accident within three months of being re-trained will be included in a separate list. The Managing Director will be informed about the driver's name, reason for the accident, and the action taken against them.
Accidents have been a common occurrence even after studies and reviews are being conducted at the unit and chief office level. Line squad inspectors have been appointed to prevent KSRTC buses and SWIFT buses from obstructing the traffic and ensure right parking. Efforts are being made to reduce the cost of repairing the buses, the loss due to non-running buses, and the money spent on lawsuits after all of them added up to a huge amount of money.
But drivers say that the age of the buses, poor condition of roads and careless driving of other vehicles are the main cause of road accidents. They also explained that the rush to reach in time following the national highway construction work has also led to accidents.
