KSRTC to install 32-inch TV in 500 buses to boost non-ticket revenue

Edappal (Kerala): Televisions are being installed in KSRTC Super Fast and Ordinary buses. 32-inch TV screens are being fitted for passengers.

A Kottayam-based firm has secured the contract. In the first phase, television sets will be installed in 500 buses, with plans to extend the initiative to other buses later. The contractor firm will install and operate the televisions at its own cost, generating revenue through displayed advertisements.

The TV will be positioned overhead behind the driver's seat, ensuring clear visibility for all passengers. Along with news broadcasts, the screens will display route updates, current and upcoming bus stops, bus timings and other details concerning KSRTC.

The project has been structured so that the contracting firm manages installation, operation and maintenance without imposing any financial liability on KSRTC. Furthermore, the company will pay a fixed percentage of its monthly revenue to KSRTC as a licence fee.

TV screens have already been installed in around 400 buses, with work ongoing for the remainder. KSRTC is also considering inviting bids from higher revenue-generating firms in the future.

Videos and other broadcast content can only be aired with the prior approval of the corporation.
