Kothamangalam: With the scorching summer heat, KSRTC has started to reduce the trips across all depots in Kerala pointing out reduction in the number of commuters. Earlier this week, depots were advised to stop trips having a low collection. The 92 depots in Kerala were given written instructions to cancel trips between 11 am and 1 pm and to adjust the schedules.

Even though a two-hour stoppage was directed, KSRTC has decided to stop services during peak heat hours with less passenger count. The Chief Traffic Manager ordered that the details of the rearranged trips should be reported to the regional office through email. Even though at least five trips were cancelled in most depots, long-running bus services will not be affected.

Trips were cut down from city services, including those from Thiruvananthapuram and some rural areas with isolated services. After the morning trip, the next trip will be in the afternoon. The unexpected cancellation of trips has affected students commuting for their exams.

KSRTC stated that the reduction in services was aimed to minimise diesel losses. Despite the cutbacks leading to increased profits, the number of canceled trips remains to be accounted.

Trips were canceled in sectors where chain services are available within a gap of 30 minutes. Authorities have confirmed that trips in rural areas have not been suspended.
