Kozhikode: A KSRTC bus overturned into a river in Thiruvambadi here, resulting in the death of two individuals. Several were also injured in the accident. The deceased have been identified as Kamala, a resident of Kandanppanchal Velankunnu near Anakkampoyil, and Thresia Mathew (75), wife of Mathew of Thoyalil at Anakkampoyil.

The accident involved the KSRTC bus with registration number KL 15 8623, which was travelling from Anakkampoyil to Thiruvambadi. The incident occurred at around 2 pm. According to the preliminary reports, there were approximately 40 people on the bus at the time of the accident, including the driver and conductor.

The injured individuals are receiving treatment at various hospitals in Mukkam and at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. Eight people are being treated at Omassery Santhi Hospital, 15 at Lissie Hospital, 2 at KMCT Medical College and another two at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.

Preliminary assessments suggest that the bus lost control and collided with a barrier before overturning into the river.

The bus fell into the river after the railing of the bridge broke. Those receiving treatment have reported that the bus was not travelling at excessive speed.

Upon learning about the accident, local residents, along with police and Fire Force personnel, immediately arrived at the scene to conduct rescue operations. Two cranes were used to lift the bus, and the rescue operation concluded once all individuals were accounted for.
