KSRTC budget tourism: Kannur grabs first place after generating lakhs in revenue

Kannur (Kerala): Kannur has maintained its position at the forefront of the state's KSRTC budget tourism services among all depots for the past two years. As of the 19th of this month, Kannur district has clinched the top spot across the state. By the evening of May 19, the district's cumulative revenue reached ₹42 lakh. Furthermore, bookings for the remaining packages this month have already been completely filled.
Last month, Kannur district held the third position, while Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam secured the first and second spots, respectively. Compared to Kannur, Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam districts operate a higher number of depots.
In addition, the revenue from the double-decker services in those regions is factored into their budget tourism earnings. Overcoming these advantages, Kannur surged ahead purely through its tour packages. The monthly target set for Kannur is ₹56 lakh. With 11 days remaining in the month, the district needs just ₹14 lakh more to achieve this goal. Within the district, tourism services are operated from the Kannur, Thalassery and Payyanur depots.
1,500 services completed
The itinerary features two-day trips to Vagamon, Gavi, Munnar, Kollur and Goa, alongside single-day excursions to various tourist destinations in Nilambur, Wayanad and Kozhikode districts. It also includes pilgrimage trips to Guruvayur and Mookambika.
Kannur district previously secured the top position in December as well. The deficit in revenue from regular bus services is frequently offset by the earnings from these budget tourism services. Over the last four years, the district has successfully operated 1,500 services.
Kannur depot generates ₹23.50 lakh
By the evening of May 19, the Kannur depot alone generated ₹23.50 lakh through its budget tourism services. The monthly revenue target assigned specifically to the Kannur depot is ₹30 lakh. In April, its total revenue stood at ₹33 lakh. Tours are conducted only if a minimum of 30 seats are booked. Monsoon packages are scheduled to roll out for June and July. Plans are underway for two-day trips to Malakkappara, Nelliampathy and Vagamon, as well as single-day journeys to Wayanad, Paithalmala, Ranipuram and Nilambur.
