Mannarkkad: KSRTC’s Budget Tourism Cell has introduced new tour packages to key destinations across Kerala. The service offers low-cost travel options to places like Nelliyampathy, Alappuzha, Malakkappara, and Marayoor on Saturdays and Sundays throughout December.
The tours are designed to cater to travellers looking for an affordable way to explore Kerala’s lush forests, majestic mountains, serene rivers, and tranquil backwaters. Both one-day and two-day packages are available, with specific itineraries and costs outlined.
Tour schedules and costs
Nelliyampathy (December 1, 8): The bus will depart from Mannarkkad depot and the trip includes visits to Sitharkund, Kesavan Para, Varattumala, and Pothundi Dam. Departing at 6 am and returning by 8 pm, the tour costs ₹590 per person.
Alappuzha (December 14): This trip features a Vega houseboat ride. The bus departs at 4 am and returns by 10 pm. Tickets are priced at ₹1,040.
Malakkappara (December 22): Travellers can visit Athirappilly Waterfalls, Vazhachal Waterfalls, and Sholayar Dam. The tour departs at 5 am and returns by 10 pm, costing ₹970.
Marayoor (December 28-29): This two-day package includes a jeep safari and lunch. Departing at 10 pm on December 28, it returns late on December 29. Tickets are priced at ₹1,880.
Children under the age of five can travel for free. KSRTC will use ordinary buses with 40 seats and fast passenger buses with 50 seats for these tours.
Resource optimisation amid challenges
Due to a shortage of buses, authorities plan to repurpose certain low-income services. The ordinary service to Jellipara-Moolagangal on Sundays will be redirected to Nelliyampathy. If additional fast passenger buses are unavailable, existing low-income services from the depot will be prioritised for these tourist trips. Plans are also underway to introduce packages to other destinations, including Siruvani Waterfalls and Ooty.
