Neyyattinkara: Aswathi, who had to undergo amputation of her right arm following a KSRTC bus accident, has written an emotional letter to Transport Minister K B Ganesh Kumar. In her letter, she expressed sorrow over the lack of support from those responsible for the accident and stated that instead of offering help, KSRTC’s official social media platforms insulted her by spreading false claims.

The accident occurred on the evening of November 4 when Aswathi, a resident of Aankode Aswathi Nivas, was traveling on her scooter and was hit by a KSRTC bus. The severe injuries to her right shoulder and head necessitated two surgeries, ultimately resulting in the complete amputation of her right arm. Following the accident, the bus driver and conductor transferred the passengers to other buses. However, they made no effort to assist her. It was a passing autorickshaw driver who rushed her to the hospital.

When the media reported the incident, KSRTC’s official social media handles allegedly dismissed the accident as fake. Aswathi, who had lost her husband, was supporting her family with a temporary job at a lottery office. She is also the sole breadwinner for her family, which includes her children who are pursuing engineering and legal studies.

Now, with the loss of her right arm, Aswathi fears losing her job and is anxious about her family's future. In her letter to the Minister, she has requested appropriate compensation and a secure job for herself. She mentioned in the letter that her daughter had signed on her behalf as she is unable to do so herself due to the loss of her right arm.
