KSEB, Water Authority to resume disconnecting supply over non-payment of arrears
Thiruvananthapuram: Disconnection of electricity and drinking water supply will be resumed in the state if the arrear bills are not paid on time. The disconnection was stalled for the past 8 months due to the pandemic.
KSEB has to collect an amount of Rs 800 crores until the mid-week of December. Out of Rs 489.36 crores, the Water authority has managed to collect only Rs 263.64 crores. Both KSEB and Water Authority believes that this arrear amount is critical for them to overcome the financial crisis. Authorities have pointed out that public life is returning to normal despite threats posed by the pandemic.
Theatres will be granted concession to pay the arrears till January 31 as they are yet to be opened. Electricity Board has stated that consumers who are unable to pay large amounts of money can avail instalment facilities upon request. Electricity connection will be disconnected for all including domestic, low tension, high tension and extra high tension consumers.
Water Authority has instructed employees to cut connection of consumers who have more than 6 months arrears. The revenue recovery of connections that were disconnected before the pandemic will also be initiated.
